Reducing Your Risks of Dental Injury

Most people are aware that good daily oral hygiene is one of the best ways to prevent serious dental emergencies, especially those caused by cavities, gingivitis, and excessive plaque buildup. Your dentist can provide you with guidance for a reliable daily oral hygiene routine you should follow as closely as possible. The next step in your preventative care is regular visits with your dentist. Two visits per year can be enough to track your dental health over time and identify potential problems before they become worse.

While many dental emergencies arise from poor dental hygiene or unaddressed dental issues, many others result from traumatic accidents and other unforeseeable incidents. While you cannot always predict what might cause a dental injury, you can be proactive in some situations if there is a clear risk of dental injury. For example, if you play contact sports, it’s probably a good idea to invest in a high-quality mouthguard that can protect your teeth from damage if you suffer a blow to the face.
