Had an emergency visit, Dr. Rod was GREAT and his chicklet (MY GIRLIE) who assisted and the office staff was very helpful in getting me the emergency appointment. I have been coming to this location for more than 5 years, it is much better than the previous 2 locations I have used.

Dentist and staff are extremely nice and listen to your needs and concerns in a very professional way. Prices are always in a fair range for the work I receive on my teeth. There is also really good communications skills from the girls at the front desk, which is Necessary for someone like me. The crowns i has put in are just right and give me no problems with my bite or pain from the work.

Wonderful, friendly staff and dentist!

Emergency Dentist in Howell, New Jersey

Even if you practice proper oral hygiene and visit your dentist for routine check-ups, dental emergencies can and do happen—usually when you least expect them. You may be tempted to push through the pain, especially when it occurs at an inconvenient time. However, this can significantly impact your health. Untreated dental problems can cause far more damage than they indicate on the surface and often rapidly worsen, requiring more invasive and costly work in the future. Whether you're dealing with a severe toothache, oral trauma, or any other dental emergency, it is crucial to seek immediate attention from a professional emergency dentist in South Howell.

Emergency Dentist Howell, NJ 07731

After graduating from Tufts School of Dental Medicine, Dr. James L. Rodriguez has spent the past 30 years providing New Jersey families with top-quality, full-service dental care. He is an active member of several dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the American Society of Forensic Odontology. As the Director of the Eastern Dental of Howell office for more than a decade, Dr. Rodriguez has helped countless patients successfully navigate their dental emergencies, from simple issues like a chipped tooth to full restorations for patients with more extensive needs.

Patients We Serve

At Eastern Dental of Howell, we believe everyone should have access to dental care. As a result, we are committed to delivering effective treatment options at affordable prices. We treat patients of all ages, from children to seniors.

More importantly, we can promptly handle any dental emergency that may arise, during or after office hours. When you arrive at our office for an emergency appointment, Dr. Rodriguez and our team will thoroughly examine the area of concern with the latest diagnostic technology. Then, we will develop an individualized treatment plan that alleviates your pain and restores your oral health.

Our Emergency Dental Services

Dr. James Rodriguez can treat a wide variety of dental emergencies, including:

  • Toothache—A toothache becomes a dental emergency if it lasts for more than a day or two, causes severe pain (especially when opening your mouth wide or biting down), or is accompanied by other symptoms such as a fever, swelling, or earache. Toothaches can be caused by tooth decay, cavities, or abscesses, all of which can destroy the affected tooth and spread the infection to neighboring teeth or into your bloodstream. Our team can examine your mouth to make an accurate diagnosis and establish a treatment plan to stop the infection and prevent further complications.
  • Dental Trauma—Car accidents, sports games, or even biting down on a hard object can damage the teeth as well as the soft tissue and bone of the mouth. A chipped or cracked tooth may not seem like a major issue, but when left untreated, the damage weakens the entire structure of the tooth. In turn, the tooth is vulnerable to continued damage. Contact our office immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms after a mouth or tooth injury: visible damage to the tooth, pain, tenderness of the mouth or jaw, sensitivity to heat and cold, or fever. We can perform an X-ray to determine the full extent of the damage, then explain your options for tooth repair or replacement.
  • Root Canal Therapy—Every tooth contains pulp, a combination of connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves within the tooth. The pulp can become inflamed or infected due to other dental issues like decay, trauma, or periodontal disease. Dr. Rodriguez is trained in endodontics, the branch of dentistry that treats problems with pulp and the tissues surrounding the roots of teeth. While severe tooth problems may require tooth extraction, in many cases, the tooth itself can be saved and repaired with a root canal. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and the decayed areas of the tooth, sealing it, then topping the tooth with a crown for protection.
  • Loose or Missing Dental Appliances—Fillings, crowns, and bridges are important dental appliances for protecting and strengthening damaged teeth. However, unlike dental implants, they are not permanent and do require repair or replacement over time. If these appliances become loose, damaged, or dislodged altogether, bacteria and food particles can become trapped underneath. Unfortunately, this encourages the growth of infection and deteriorates the bones that support the teeth. Our team can repair your appliance, replace it, or surgically install dental implants into your jawbone as a permanent solution.
  • Wisdom Tooth Removal—Wisdom teeth often become impacted when there is not enough space in your mouth for them to fully emerge. This puts pressure on nearby teeth, which can damage them, force them out of place, or encourage tooth decay. Contact our office if your wisdom teeth are causing any of the following symptoms: pain or swelling in your gums or jaw, cavities, abscesses, movement or damage to neighboring teeth, earache, headache, sinus pressure, or pain in other areas of your mouth.
