The staff is very helpful and always kind. Doctor Brown was easy to talk to and easy to understand- very personable. Nurse was helpful and showed knowledge of my charted items.

The Fort Smith Practice is excellent. Everyone bends over backwards to make your experience a pleasant one. Dr. Deb is a real artist with my missing front tooth. The front desk ladies are fantastic as well. I have a new hygienist and she’s awesome too. Not that it’s important, but they play great music too. I found myself fighting the urge to move with it during my cleaning. Can’t say enough good things.

Emergency Dental Services Available

Dental emergencies can vary drastically. Some can be caused over time, such as grinding your teeth, or a slow decay caused by diet and other habits. Some can happen suddenly like falling off a bike or getting hit with a ball while playing a game. Whatever the cause of your dental concerns, we have a solution. We offer services that address many different dental issues:

  • Avulsed teeth. A completely knocked-out tooth needs immediate attention. Dr. Duff will need to examine the socket area to ensure there is no further damage to the root, supporting tissue, or blood vessels. In some situations, he may even be able to reintroduce the tooth. Other immediate dental services could include fixing chips, breaks, or cracks that can be caused by different reasons.
  • Jaw swelling. Issues within our mouth can trigger an infection that spreads along the jawbone and surrounding tissue. When this area becomes infected, you can start to notice swelling or tenderness. This situation needs the right treatment to stop the spread of infection as well as determine where it came from.
  • Toothache relief. Even a small toothache can become a major hindrance over time. It can impact your ability to enjoy basic tasks such as eating or drinking. A toothache is often a signal that there is a deeper issue at hand that needs to be treated for permanent relief.
  • Gum discomfort. If you notice a pain in your gums, Dr. Duff will need to take a look to determine the deeper issue causing the pain. This is usually a problem deep within the gum tissue that requires special equipment to detect.
  • Root canal therapy. A tooth that is damaged or decayed could benefit from a root canal procedure. This is performed on a tooth that may have already had a filling or crown, but the tooth continued to decay. A root canal can repair the channels between tooth and root, allowing you to maintain your natural smile.
  • Loose filling. A loose filling could trap food and other unwanted debris between itself and your tooth. It may even fall out, leaving your tooth fully exposed. It is crucial to have the filling replaced as soon as possible to prevent further decay.
  • Extractions. Removing a tooth or teeth can become necessary if they pose an infection risk due to extreme damage or decay. This infection could spread to other teeth, and cause you more pain. Removal prevents any infection from spreading and alleviates the pain associated with that tooth.
  • Crown loss. A crown is custom-fitted to your tooth and shouldn't become loose or fall out. If this does happen, it's often a clear sign that the tooth has decayed further. It is important to have this replaced as quickly as possible to protect the now-exposed tooth from further complications.

Avoiding the Need for Emergency Dental Services

In an ideal world, no one would ever have to worry about needing an emergency dental service. While some emergencies are simply unavoidable, a good majority are preventable. If you want to avoid the need for an emergency dental service, it begins with you. You have to be able to adhere to a routine of brushing and flossing.

You should also consider making routine check-up appointments with Dr. Duff every six months. This allows our office to keep track of your dental health, allowing us to detect any abnormalities early on. Caring for your oral hygiene and having regular checkups are two great ways to avoid any need for emergency care.
