Everyone at this office is super friendly and helpful. They were informative and gave me all payment options before service. I just moved and had to find a new dentist. Do not hesitate to book an appointment. Very satisfied.

Typical Dental Emergencies and What You Should Do

We suggest contacting us right away in the event of a dental emergency, but you are likely wondering what to do in the meantime. To minimize damage and increase the chances of a speedy recovery when you make it into our office, check out the following recommendations for what you should do for your dental emergency:

  • Knocked-out tooth – Do not touch the root of the tooth! Pick it up by the crown and rinse it with warm water. Place it back into the socket if possible, or tuck it into your cheek if that is not an option. Keeping the tooth from drying out is essential, so if you can’t keep it in your mouth until reaching us, place it in a container of milk, saliva, or water. Try to make it to our office within thirty minutes – the longer you wait, the lower the chances of successful reimplantation.
  • Loose tooth – If your tooth has been loosened from its socket but is still attached to nerves and blood vessels, it may be possible to save it. Apply a cold compress and take over-the-counter pain relievers to control your discomfort until you reach your emergency dentist. They can reposition your loose tooth and stabilize it using splints. If the tooth does not heal, you may require root canal therapy.
  • Cracked or fractured teeth – Cracks and fractures can come in many forms, but they are usually the result of trauma, biting hard foods, or grinding your teeth. Some cracks are too small to see with the naked eye, while others can extend down to the root and cause agonizing pain. If a piece of your tooth has broken off, rinse the fragment and your mouth with lukewarm water, then apply gauze to the affected area if bleeding persists. A cold, damp towel can be placed on your check to help with pain and swelling. If you are unable to see us right away, cover the area with over-the-counter dental cement to protect it from further damage.
  • Lost crown – Crowns can become loose if the tooth underneath is decaying, which alters the shape of the tooth and allows the crown to eventually fall off. Your tooth will probably be extremely sensitive to pressure and temperature. Keep it in a cool place; we may be able to reattach it. The longer you go without seeking treatment, the more likely your teeth will shift or withstand additional damage.
